UK NEWS: United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer landed in Mumbai on Wednesday, marking his first official visit to India since assuming office.
Starmer was welcomed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with Governor Acharya Devvrat.
During his visit, Prime Minister Starmer is scheduled to meet with his Indian counterpart, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on October 9 in Mumbai. The two leaders are expected to review progress on the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, guided by the “Vision 2035” roadmap. The discussions will cover key areas such as trade and investment, defence and security, climate and clean energy, health, technology, innovation, education, and cultural ties.
Both leaders will also interact with leading business figures to explore opportunities under the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)—a landmark free trade deal signed earlier this year. The agreement aims to strengthen bilateral commerce and deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.
In addition, Prime Ministers Modi and Starmer will jointly address the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, engaging with entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers shaping the future of financial technology.
This visit follows Prime Minister Modi’s trip to the UK in July, which helped accelerate momentum in bilateral relations. It serves as a key moment to reaffirm the shared vision of India and the United Kingdom for a modern, forward-looking partnership rooted in innovation, mutual growth, and global collaboration.
