Stockholm– The Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2025. The Swedish Academy’s Nobel Committee made the announcement on Thursday, October 9th. This is the fourth Nobel Prize to be announced this week, following those for Medicine, Physics, and Chemistry.

Prior to this, the Nobel Committee has awarded the Literature Prize 117 times to 121 laureates. Last year’s Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to South Korean author Han Kang. The committee had stated that her literary work “confronts historical trauma and exposes the fragility of human life.”

The sequence of 2025 Nobel announcements began on Monday with the Physiology or Medicine prize. It was awarded to Mary E. Bronco, Fred Ramsdell, and Dr. Shimon Sakaguchi for their discoveries related to peripheral immune tolerance.

On Tuesday, the Physics prize was awarded to John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret, and John M. Martinis for their research into the strange world of subatomic quantum tunneling, which powers everyday digital communication and computing.

The Chemistry prize was announced on Wednesday and jointly awarded to Japan’s Susumu Kitagawa, Australia’s Richard Robson, and the USA’s Omar M. Yaghi. These scientists were recognized for their contributions to metal-organic frameworks.

Upcoming Announcements and Ceremony

The spotlight now turns to the Nobel Peace Prize, whose winner will be announced on Friday. This announcement is being closely watched worldwide, as former US President Donald Trump has repeatedly staked a claim to the prize, touting himself as a peacemaker.

The final announcement, for the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, will be made next Monday.

The award ceremony will be held on December 10th, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death. Nobel, a wealthy Swedish industrialist and the inventor of dynamite, died in 1896.

Each prize winner will receive an award of 11 million Swedish kronor (approximately 10.5 crore Indian Rupees), an 18-carat gold medal, and a diploma.
