HOUSTON – The United States has witnessed another grim shooting incident, this time in Houston, where a man killed three people at two different locations before turning the gun on himself, according to police.

Authorities are now working to determine the motive behind the violence. “The initial indication is that the two scenes are connected,” said Lieutenant Larry Crowson of the Houston Police Department.

What Happened at the First Scene?

The first shooting was reported in the suburb of Sugar Land. A police spokesperson, Alicia Alaniz, stated that a driver fired multiple rounds into another vehicle, injuring its driver. The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital. Alaniz added that investigators are still working to determine if this was a case of “road rage.”

Details of the Second Shooting

Approximately half an hour later and about 11 kilometers southeast of the first scene, Houston police received reports of a shooting at a mechanic’s shop. Lieutenant Crowson reported that the assailant shot and killed a mechanic and a witness who was recording video of the incident.

The suspect was found dead in his vehicle about 6.4 kilometers away. Authorities believe he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police have not yet released the names of the victims or the suspect.

A Look at America’s Gun Culture

This incident brings the focus back on the pervasive gun culture in the United States. American civilians possess more firearms than anyone else in the world. A 2023 estimate suggests there are over 393 million guns in civilian hands in the U.S.—a number that surpasses the country’s total population.

Statistics indicate that firearms are present in approximately 40-44% of U.S. households, and about 32% of American adults personally own a gun. This data implies that many gun owners possess more than one firearm.
