Washington DC, October 11, 2025:US President Donald Trump on Friday announced that the United States will implement a 100% tariff on Chinese imports, effective November 1, 2025, in addition to all existing tariffs. Alongside this, export controls on critical software will also take effect on the same date.
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, citing China’s “extraordinarily aggressive position on trade” and a “hostile letter to the world” that threatens all countries. He accused China of planning the move for years, describing it as unprecedented and “a moral disgrace in dealing with other nations.”
The action follows China’s recent tightening of rare earth export restrictions, expanding its control list to include production technologies and applications in sectors such as military and semiconductors.
Trump also stated that there was “no reason to meet” with Chinese President Xi Jinping after these developments, highlighting the rising tension between the two nations over trade and technology controls.
The US measures signal a major escalation in the ongoing US-China trade standoff, with significant implications for global supply chains and international trade relations.
