New Delhi, October 12, 2025: An Indian Army contingent of 120 personnel left for Irwin Barracks in Perth, Australia, on Saturday to participate in the fourth edition of the India-Australia joint military Exercise AUSTRAHIND 2025, which will be held from October 13 to 26, the Ministry of Defence announced.
The contingent is led by a Battalion of Gorkha Rifles and includes troops from other branches and services.
Exercise AUSTRAHIND is designed to enhance bilateral military cooperation, improve interoperability, and provide a platform for both armies to exchange tactics, techniques, and procedures, particularly in sub-conventional operations in urban and semi-urban environments, the Defence Ministry stated.
The drill will emphasize joint company-level operations in open and semi-desert terrain, covering activities such as joint planning, tactical exercises, and specialized arms training. It aims to strengthen operational readiness, integrate modern technologies, and enable troops to operate cohesively in a simulated combat setting.
Officials said participation in Exercise AUSTRAHIND 2025 will deepen defence ties and foster camaraderie between Indian and Australian soldiers, reinforcing trust and cooperation between the two nations’ armed forces.
