NAIROBI – Twelve people are feared dead after a small aircraft crashed early Tuesday in Kenya’s coastal Kwale area, according to officials.
The plane was en route to a popular tourist destination in the Maasai Mara National Reserve when it went down. The accident occurred in a hilly and forested area approximately 40 kilometers from the Dianne airstrip.

Stephen Orinde, the County Commissioner of Kwale, confirmed the incident to The Associated Press, stating that a search and rescue operation is ongoing at the crash site and that further details will be provided later.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that there were 12 people on board the aircraft. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
