Riyadh: A recently surfaced video from Saudi Arabia has sparked widespread online debate and prompted official action. The short clip, lasting less than a minute, shows a security officer at the Grand Mosque in Mecca engaging in a physical altercation with a pilgrim, drawing criticism and raising questions about conduct and public scrutiny within the holy site.

The incident has ignited discussions about the challenges faced by security officials in managing large crowds of pilgrims, while also highlighting public expectations for their treatment.

What Does the Video Show?

The 59-second clip, which first went viral on social media on the evening of Monday, November 3, depicts a security officer dragging a woman who was seated just meters from the sacred Kaaba. Moments later, the same officer is seen shoving a male pilgrim, dressed in the traditional ‘Ihram’ garments.

The man appears to be questioning or interfering with the officer’s actions. In the video, the pilgrim requests to record their interaction, telling the officer, “Don’t touch me… Be polite and courteous with me.” The officer responds by physically pushing him again and ordering him to stand in a designated area, while the pilgrim continues trying to record the incident.

Official Response from Saudi Authorities

Saudi authorities moved swiftly to address the viral video. The authorities of the Mecca region and the Saudi Public Security issued a statement confirming they had taken notice.

“The Special Forces for the Security of the Hajj and Umrah promptly addressed the situation and arrested the individual appearing in the video for violating the directives and regulations in place at the Grand Mosque,” the official statement read.

The authorities emphasized that the individual in the video had breached the rules, and “legal action is being taken against him in accordance with the laws of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
