MOSCOW – A Russian KA-226 helicopter crashed in the Republic of Dagestan, killing five people onboard. The accident occurred near the village of Achisu in the Caspian Sea region when the aircraft lost control and crashed to the ground.
Among the deceased are four employees of the Kaspiysk Electromechanical Plant (KEMZ), the company confirmed on November 8. The victims include the plant’s Deputy General Director and the helicopter’s flight mechanic. Two other individuals were injured in the crash and have been hospitalized for treatment.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the helicopter crash is currently under investigation. Initial reports from Russian state media had suggested the helicopter was carrying tourists, but it was later clarified that the passengers were, in fact, employees of KEMZ.
