Washington, DC, November 22, 2025- BNN Web Staff: US President Donald Trump met New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the Oval Office on Friday, calling their discussion “great” and “very productive.”

The meeting, reported by CNN, marked the first official interaction between the two leaders following Mamdani’s election win.

Trump, who hails from New York, congratulated Mamdani and said the two shared common concerns about the city’s future, especially rising living costs and affordable housing.

“We had a very strong and very good meeting,” Trump told reporters. “We both want New York—our city—to thrive. We talked about building more housing, lowering food prices, and even the impact of falling oil prices.”

The President added that Mamdani could exceed expectations across political lines.
“I think he’s going to be a very good mayor. The happier New Yorkers are, the happier I am. And honestly, he might surprise both conservatives and liberals,” Trump said.

Standing beside Trump, Mamdani echoed the positive sentiment and said the conversation focused on issues deeply affecting New Yorkers.

“It was a productive discussion centred on our shared love for New York City,” Mamdani noted. “We talked about rent, soaring grocery prices, high utility bills—everything that’s forcing people to leave the city. I appreciate the President’s time and look forward to working together to bring affordability back.”
