Washington DC [US], January 20, 2026, BNN Web Staff: US President Donald Trump has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is among several world leaders invited to participate in the proposed Gaza Board of Peace, an international initiative aimed at fostering stability and supporting post-conflict reconstruction in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to reporters during a media interaction on Monday (local time), Trump said the board would comprise prominent global leaders tasked with advancing peace efforts in the Middle East. When asked directly whether Putin had been invited, Trump responded in the affirmative, noting that the Russian leader was one of the figures being considered for the initiative.
The Gaza Board of Peace forms part of Phase 2 of Trump’s 20-point peace framework, which seeks to end the ongoing conflict and establish long-term stability in the region. Initially unveiled last September, the proposal has since evolved into a broader platform for international cooperation on conflict resolution and reconstruction.
According to the plan, leaders from around 60 countries have been invited to join the body, which will focus on governance development, regional coordination, infrastructure rebuilding, investment promotion, and mobilisation of large-scale financial support for Gaza’s recovery.
A White House statement said the executive board would manage key portfolios essential to Gaza’s stabilisation, including institution-building, attracting global investment, and securing funding for reconstruction projects. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been invited to serve on the board.
Under the proposed structure, countries contributing USD 1 billion would receive permanent seats on the board, while others could participate on a three-year rotational basis.
During the same interaction with the media, Trump also made remarks regarding France, suggesting the imposition of steep tariffs on French wine and champagne after reports that President Emmanuel Macron declined to participate in the initiative.
Trump claimed that such trade measures could be considered, while adding that participation in the board remained voluntary.
