New York (US), April 12, 2026, BNN Web Staff: A 44-year-old man attacked and injured three people in a violent incident at Grand Central Station in New York City on Saturday morning. The suspect was later shot by police after he allegedly refused to drop a machete during confrontation with officers.

According to reports cited by the New York Post, the attacker targeted three elderly individuals while shouting and referring to himself as “Lucifer.” The incident occurred around 9:50 a.m. on the 4, 5, and 6 subway platform.

Police said the victims include an 85-year-old man who suffered a severe head injury, a 65-year-old man who sustained head cuts, and a 70-year-old woman who was injured in the shoulder.

New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that officers repeatedly ordered the suspect, identified as Anthony Griffin, to drop the weapon—reportedly more than 20 times—but he refused to comply.

Officials further said that officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and offered help before the suspect moved toward them with the machete, prompting them to open fire.

The suspect was pronounced dead following the shooting, while all three victims were taken to hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he was briefed on the incident and praised the quick response of NYPD officers, which he said prevented further violence.

Authorities confirmed that the NYPD has launched an internal investigation, and body-worn camera footage from the officers involved will be released as part of standard procedure.
