Beijing (US), April 14, 2026, BNN Web Staff: Xi Jinping on Tuesday outlined a four-point framework aimed at fostering long-term peace and stability in the Middle East, according to Chinese state media Xinhua News Agency.
The proposal emphasises mutual respect for sovereignty, adherence to international law, peaceful coexistence, and a balanced approach between development and security.
Xi presented the initiative during a meeting in Beijing with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates.
The diplomatic push comes at a time of heightened global attention on the Middle East. On the same day, Sergey Lavrov arrived in China for a two-day official visit.
During his stay, Lavrov is expected to hold talks with Wang Yi, focusing on bilateral ties as well as key regional and international developments.
Meanwhile, tensions linked to the region continue to surface. In a recent phone conversation, Abbas Araghchi cautioned that what he described as provocative actions by the United States could have serious repercussions for global peace and security.
Araghchi also reviewed the evolving situation following a ceasefire announcement and subsequent Iran-US discussions held in Islamabad on April 11–12.
He specifically warned about the risks posed by developments in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting their potential impact on regional stability.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian held discussions on the situation in the Middle East. During the exchange, the Iranian president shared his assessment of recent diplomatic engagements and acknowledged Russia’s stance in supporting efforts to ease tensions through international platforms.
