New Delhi, April 26, 2026, BNN Web Staff : A late-night aviation scare unfolded at Delhi’s IGI Airport after a Zurich-bound aircraft operated by Swiss International Air Lines developed a technical fault during takeoff, prompting authorities to declare a full emergency.

The incident occurred around 2 am when smoke was detected from the left-side wheel of Flight LX147 (Delhi–Zurich) as it began takeoff. The crew immediately aborted the takeoff and initiated emergency protocols.

According to sources, the aircraft was carrying 232 passengers. During the evacuation through emergency slides, four passengers sustained minor injuries.

Airport authorities confirmed that all safety procedures were swiftly implemented and passengers were safely deboarded. In a statement, Delhi Airport said a full emergency was declared on Runway 28/10, but overall airport operations continued without disruption.

The fire department was alerted shortly after the incident and dispatched five fire tenders to the site following reports of a hydraulic emergency. The situation was brought under control, and the aircraft was secured safely by around 3:30 am.

Officials are assessing the cause of the smoke, while aviation authorities are expected to conduct a detailed inspection.
