Naypyidaw, April 26, 2026, BNN Web Staff: A moderate earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar on Sunday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The tremor occurred at a depth of 90 kilometres, with coordinates recorded at latitude 24.113°N and longitude 94.550°E. Officials noted that the depth places it in the category of intermediate-focus earthquakes.
The latest quake comes within hours of another tremor on Saturday evening, when a 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit the region at a depth of 95 kilometres, indicating continued seismic activity.
Myanmar remains prone to earthquakes due to its location along active tectonic boundaries involving the Indian and Eurasian plates. The presence of the Sagaing Fault further heightens the risk, especially for major population centres.
While there have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage, authorities are closely monitoring the situation as a precaution.
