Washington DC (US), May 2, 2026, BNN Web Staff: Donald Trump has stirred fresh controversy after declaring that the United States would be “taking over” Cuba “almost immediately,” while addressing a gathering at the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches.

He described Cuba as a country facing deep challenges, adding that the US would act decisively.

The remarks came alongside a tougher stance from the White House, which stated that Cuba’s policies continue to pose an “extraordinary threat” to the United States and contradict democratic values.

In response, Cuba strongly condemned the latest sanctions announced by Washington. Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla criticised the measures as “unilateral coercive actions” aimed at punishing ordinary citizens.

He further argued that such steps violate the United Nations Charter and overstep US authority.

The US administration has expanded sanctions targeting individuals and entities allegedly linked to Cuba’s security apparatus, as well as those accused of corruption and human rights violations.

The move signals a sharper escalation in policy toward the island nation.

Meanwhile, Mexico, Spain, and Brazil issued a joint statement expressing concern over the worsening humanitarian conditions in Cuba, warning of growing instability in the region.

The developments indicate rising diplomatic tensions, with Cuba facing increasing international pressure amid a deepening crisis.
