Washington DC (US), May 13, 2026, BNN Web Staff: US President Donald Trump has launched a sharp attack on sections of the American media over their coverage of the ongoing tensions involving Iran, accusing news organisations of spreading misleading narratives and giving “false hope” to Tehran.
In a post shared on his social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump claimed that reports suggesting Iran was performing well militarily against the United States were “completely false” and amounted to “virtual treason.” He alleged that such reporting was helping America’s adversaries.
“When the Fake News says that the Iranian enemy is doing well militarily against us, it’s virtual TREASON,” Trump wrote, adding that the coverage was “aiding and abetting the enemy” and damaging US interests.
The US President further claimed that Iran’s military infrastructure had been devastated. According to Trump, the country’s navy, air force and military technology had been wiped out, while its leadership structure had collapsed. He also described Iran’s economy as being in severe crisis.
Trump made the remarks while travelling to Beijing for a scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Speaking to reporters before departing for China, Trump reiterated that Iran’s military capabilities had been “decimated” and asserted that the United States would prevail “peacefully or otherwise.” He also dismissed suggestions that Washington might seek assistance from China in dealing with Tehran.
“We’ll win it one way or the other,” Trump said, while maintaining that the US blockade against Iran was “100 per cent effective.”
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticised the United States and accused Washington of undermining peace efforts through what he described as provocative rhetoric and lack of sincerity.
According to Iranian state media, Araghchi made the remarks during talks in Tehran with Norway’s deputy foreign minister. He said the “lack of good faith and dishonesty” by the United States remained the biggest hurdle to ending the conflict.
The Iranian minister also accused the US and Israel of escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and alleged that continued restrictions on Iran’s maritime ports violated ceasefire understandings.
