New Delhi, September 14, 2026, BNN Web News: Several world leaders and senior international officials departed New Delhi on Monday following the conclusion of the 18th BRICS Summit, hosted by India at Bharat Mandapam.
The summit brought together leaders of BRICS member countries, partner nations and Outreach invitees for discussions on global governance, multilateralism, economic cooperation and inclusive growth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an extensive series of bilateral meetings with visiting leaders and senior officials during the summit, apart from participating in the main BRICS sessions and the Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue.
Among those who departed New Delhi on Monday were Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye and First Lady Angeline Ndayishimiye, Nigerian Foreign Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Burundi Foreign Minister Edouard Bizimana, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
On Sunday, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov had also left the national capital.
Prime Minister Modi’s diplomatic engagements began on Friday with a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Bharat Mandapam. He later held bilateral discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
On Saturday, Modi met Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali at Hyderabad House, followed by meetings with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vietnam Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.
The Prime Minister also welcomed leaders of BRICS member countries at Bharat Mandapam before the formal summit proceedings. The leaders participated in a closed-door session on “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism”, during which Modi addressed the gathering.
The programme also included a visit to the ‘Bharat Innovates’ exhibition, a family photograph and a joint tree-plantation initiative at Bharat Mandapam. Modi subsequently held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping before hosting a gala dinner for the visiting dignitaries.
On Sunday, Modi interacted with leaders of BRICS Partner Countries and Outreach Invitees and addressed the summit session on “Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth”.
He also held a series of bilateral meetings with Kazakhstan Prime Minister Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye, Nigerian Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Ugandan Vice-President Jessica Alupo.
The summit concluded after a packed schedule of multilateral discussions and bilateral engagements involving leaders and heads of international institutions.
