US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly expressed his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, has begun building momentum a day before the announcement of the prestigious award. His hopes have been bolstered by a major development in Gaza, where the first phase of Trump’s 20-point peace plan has been implemented.

Trump announced that both Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of his peace plan to end the two-year-long war. Hamas will soon release the hostages in its captivity, while Israel will withdraw its troops to a specified line. Following Trump’s announcement, official handles controlled by the US President—such as those of the White House and the Republican Party—have been posting content hailing Trump as a “Peacemaker” and the “Peace President.”

Trump’s Publicity Campaign in Full Swing

A look at the White House’s Twitter handle reveals a post featuring a picture of Donald Trump walking through a White House corridor, emblazoned with the text: “The Peace President.”

Similarly, the Republican Party—also known as the Grand Old Party (GOP)—posted from its handle a picture of Trump wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and sitting on a chair. The image carries the text in large letters: “The Peacemaker.”

Why Trump is Still Considered an Unlikely Winner

Despite the fanfare, the odds remain heavily stacked against him. It is crucial to understand that peace has not yet been fully achieved in Gaza; only an agreement on the first phase of Trump’s plan has been reached. The critical test will be how long Hamas takes to release the hostages and Israel takes to withdraw its troops, a process estimated to take 48 to 72 hours.

Furthermore, the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which selects the Peace Prize laureate, makes its decision in early October. Its decision is final and cannot be appealed. This means the committee has likely already chosen the winner. Therefore, Trump’s chances of winning today are the same as they were yesterday—which are considered very low.

Experts speculate that Trump is unlikely to be the committee’s choice, at least not this year. As reported by AFP, Nina Gräger, head of the Oslo Peace Research Institute, stated, “Aside from the attempt to establish peace for Gaza, we have seen policies that actually go against (Alfred) Nobel’s intentions and what is written in his will, particularly promoting international cooperation, brotherhood between nations, and arms reduction.”
