Android vs Apple: Google has stated that Android smartphones are performing better than Apple’s iPhones in preventing mobile fraud. The company made this claim citing a recent survey and research, suggesting that its AI-powered protection is playing a significant role in safeguarding users from fraud and unwanted communication.

Blocking 10 Billion Calls and Messages Daily

In a blog post, Google detailed that the AI tools integrated into Android are helping users combat the global problem of scamming. It was reported that Android has saved users approximately $400 billion.

Furthermore, Google claims that its Android security and call-screening system blocks more than 10 billion spam calls and messages every month.

Survey Data: Android Users Report Less Spam

The report also references a YouGov survey of nearly 5,000 smartphone users. Google stated that the data indicates Android smartphone users, particularly those with Pixel devices, receive fewer spam calls and messages compared to iPhone users.

Android Users are Safer

According to the survey findings:

  • An Android user was 58% more likely to have not received a single scam text in the past week compared to an iOS user.
  • When focusing specifically on Pixel users, this figure rose dramatically, making them 96% more likely than iPhone users to have been free of scam texts.
  • The survey also highlighted that iOS users were more likely to receive three or more scam messages in a week.
  • A significant number of iPhone users reportedly agreed that their device was incapable of preventing mobile scam attempts.

How Android Achieves This

Google attributes this effectiveness to built-in tools on Android devices. These include:

  • Spam filtering in messages
  • On-device scam detection
  • The call-screen feature on Android phones, which can proactively identify and warn users about potential spam calls before they even answer.
