The updated charges affect inadmissibility applications and the International Experience Canada (IEC) work permit.
Ottawa (Canada), December 4, 2025, BNN Web Staff: Canada has implemented a revised fee structure for several immigration-related applications starting December 1, 2025.
The updated charges affect inadmissibility applications and the International Experience Canada (IEC) work permit.
Applicants who submitted online applications and completed payment before midnight on December 1 will not be impacted, while those filing by paper may need to pay the difference.
The revised fees apply to applications for Authorization to Return to Canada, temporary resident permits, criminal rehabilitation, and restoration of temporary resident status.
Fees now range from $246.25 for most restoration and permit categories to $1,231.00 for criminal rehabilitation involving serious criminality.
The cost of applying to return to Canada following a removal has increased to $492.50, while temporary resident permits—issued in exceptional circumstances—now cost $246.25.
Criminal rehabilitation fees have been adjusted according to whether the offence is categorized under criminality or serious criminality.
Individuals who have lost their temporary resident status—such as visitors, students, or workers—must apply for restoration within 90 days if they intend to stay in Canada.
The new fees apply to all restoration applications, whether or not they include a request for a fresh permit.
Foreign nationals entering through the International Experience Canada program will now pay a revised work permit fee of $184.75, up from $179.75. The IEC pools for the 2025 season have already closed and will reopen when the 2026 program begins.
For paper-based applicants who paid the previous fee before the increase, IRCC will issue instructions to clear the outstanding amount. Applicants must calculate the fee difference, pay through IRCC’s online portal under “Make an additional payment or pay other fees,” and submit the receipt as directed.
Each transaction generates a single receipt, and applicants may choose to complete payment in one or multiple instalments.
