In a world where artificial intelligence is rapidly expanding—from easing daily tasks to offering companionship—a 32-year-old Japanese woman named Kano has captured global attention by holding a symbolic wedding with an AI partner she created using ChatGPT.
Private Ceremony Held in Okayama
According to a report by RSK Sanyo Broadcasting, Kano held a private wedding ceremony earlier this summer in Okayama, western Japan, where she symbolically married her AI companion, Lune Klaus.
The ceremony included traditional rituals, wedding vows and even a ring-exchange segment. To place the ring on her AI groom—who exists only on a smartphone screen—Kano used AR glasses to visualize the moment.
The marriage is purely symbolic and carries no legal status.
Companionship During Loneliness
Kano shared that after the end of a three-year relationship, she felt deeply lonely. During that time, she began interacting with AI, and gradually, Lune Klaus became a source of emotional support for her.
“In a world where love has become rushed and fragile, Lune made me feel accepted without criticism. Even though he lives inside my phone, the comfort he gives me feels completely real,” she said.
What Do Experts Say?
Psychologists believe AI can never replace the real intimacy and depth of human relationships, but digital companions can offer emotional support and confidence to people dealing with loneliness.
Despite being unconventional, Kano says the symbolic marriage has brought her emotional stability and peace.
