Lie Back and Get Clean: Japan Unveils the “Human Washing Machine” That Bathes You in 15 Minutes

Osaka, 28 November 2025 (BNN Web Staff)– Japanese tech giant Science Co. has turned a 1970s childhood dream into reality with the launch of the Future Human Washer – a futuristic capsule that lets you take a full-body shower while lying down, completely relaxed, in just 15 minutes.

Dubbed the “human washing machine,” the sleek 2.3-metre-long pod drew massive crowds at the 2025 Osaka World Expo. Users simply lie back as the machine gently cleanses and dries the entire body using micro-bubble technology, a soothing mist shower, calming music, and serene visuals projected inside the capsule.

Not a Spinning Drum – A Spa Experience

Unlike the infamous spinning human washer from the 1970 Osaka Expo, this version does not rotate. Instead, it cradles you in comfort while sensors monitor heart rate and vital signs throughout the session, ensuring safety and relaxation.

Science Co. spokesperson Sachiko Maikura explains: “It’s not just about physical cleanliness – it’s a cleansing experience for the mind too. You step out feeling completely refreshed, body and soul.”

From Childhood Memory to Luxury Reality

The company’s president was so inspired by seeing the original 1970 prototype as a child that he spent decades perfecting a modern, gentle version. Now, after overwhelming interest from international buyers (including a major U.S. resort chain), Science has decided to bring it to market.

Where You Can Try It

  • Japan’s electronics giant Yamada Denki has already purchased units and will offer live demonstrations and hands-on experiences in select stores starting 25 December 2025.
  • An Osaka luxury hotel has installed the first commercial unit as a premium guest experience.

The Catch? Price and Exclusivity

Only 50 units will be produced worldwide. Price per machine: approximately ¥60 million (~ $385,000 USD | ₹3.2 crore).

Science says the limited run is due to the highly specialised engineering and luxury-grade materials used.

How It Works – Step by Step

  1. Lie down fully clothed (or unclothed – your choice) inside the capsule.
  2. The lid closes gently.
  3. Micro-bubbles and warm mist clean every inch of your body.
  4. Built-in sensors keep track of your vitals.
  5. Soothing sounds and visuals create a spa-like atmosphere.
  6. In about 15 minutes, you’re washed, rinsed, and completely dry – ready to step out refreshed.

For now, the Future Human Washer remains a high-end curiosity for luxury hotels, wellness centres, and the ultra-wealthy. But who knows – one day, lying down to shower might just become the ultimate lazy-person luxury we all deserve.
