Xinjiang [China], October 14, 2025: A mild earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck China’s Xinjiang region on Tuesday morning, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The tremor was recorded at 8:45 AM (IST) at a depth of 10 kilometres, the NCS reported. The epicentre was located at latitude 41.65°N and longitude 81.14°E.
The NCS confirmed the details of the event on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating:
“EQ of M: 4.2, On: 14/10/2025 08:45:28 IST, Lat: 41.65 N, Long: 81.14 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Xinjiang.”
Seismologists note that shallow earthquakes, such as this one, can cause stronger ground shaking and pose a greater risk of damage, as seismic waves travel a shorter distance to the surface.
As of now, there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the affected area.
