London: A horrific stabbing incident on a moving train in Cambridgeshire, UK, on Saturday evening has caused widespread alarm. The attack left ten people wounded, nine of whom are reported to be in a serious condition.
Incident Details
The attack occurred on a high-speed train travelling from Doncaster to London’s King’s Cross station. Police were alerted at 7:39 PM local time and subsequently stopped the train at Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire.
Following the incident, two individuals were arrested at Huntingdon station. Given the severity of the attack, counter-terrorism police have now joined the investigation to determine the motive and circumstances.
Eyewitness Account
A witness on the train provided a chilling account to Sky News, stating they heard someone shouting, “They have a knife, I’ve been stabbed.” The witness described the victim as being “covered in blood.”
Official Response
In an official statement, the police confirmed, “Officers attended and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two people were arrested and the injured taken to hospital. They are working to establish what happened. It may take some time for us to confirm anything further.”
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the “terrible incident” and appealed for the public to follow police advice. “My thoughts are with all those affected and I thank the emergency services for their response,” he said.
Broader Context: UK’s Knife Crime Crisis
Official statistics show that knife crimes have been rising steadily in Britain since 2011. The issue has become so significant that Prime Minister Starmer has declared it a national crisis. As part of a wider government crackdown, police confiscated 60,000 knives last year. The UK has strict laws, and carrying a knife in public can lead to a prison sentence of up to four years.
