Private Jet Crashes Near Mexico City, Killing Seven During Emergency Landing

Mexico, 16 Dec 2025 (BNN Web Staff)

A small private jet crashed while attempting an emergency landing in central Mexico on Monday, December 15th, killing at least seven people and forcing a major evacuation in an industrial area.

The aircraft, which had taken off from the coastal city of Acapulco, was approaching Toluca International Airport when it encountered trouble. Authorities report the pilot attempted to land on a nearby soccer field but struck the metal roof of a business warehouse, causing the plane to burst into flames and crash.

Eyewitness Account and Emergency Response

The crash triggered a large fire, exacerbated by the warehouse’s reported contents of fuel and gas tanks, leading to the precautionary evacuation of about 130 residents and workers.

An eyewitness described the terrifying moment to ABC7 News: “It spun around like when a fan breaks loose… Then we heard the explosion, the truck even moved, and then we saw smoke coming out”. Emergency crews, including firefighters and civil protection units, were on the scene within minutes to battle the blaze and begin recovery efforts.

Ongoing Investigation

Mexican authorities, including the Attorney General’s Office and civil aviation investigators, have launched a formal investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Key questions they are seeking to answer include:

The reason for the emergency landing attempt.

Whether technical failure, human error, or other factors were involved.

Preliminary reports suggest weather was not a contributing factor, but this is part of the ongoing inquiry.
