Washington, DC [US], October 8, 2025:US President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney held discussions at the White House on Tuesday, focusing on trade relations, the situation in Gaza, and broader peace efforts in the Middle East.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office before their meeting, President Trump praised Carney, saying they had maintained a strong relationship “from the very beginning.” Acknowledging that the two countries occasionally face “natural conflicts,” Trump added confidently, “We’ll probably work that out.”
On the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Trump said both sides would review developments in the region. “Our team is over there now,” he noted, expressing optimism about potential progress toward peace. “There’s a real chance we could do something,” he said, emphasizing that nearly every nation had shown support for his administration’s peace initiative.
The leaders also addressed economic cooperation and trade issues, including tariffs, though Trump did not specify whether any changes to existing duties were planned.
Prime Minister Carney thanked President Trump for the warm welcome and described him as “a transformative president,” affirming Canada’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with the United States.
