Speaking immediately after receiving the honor, President Trump said: “I’m very happy to receive this beautiful award, but what’s far more important is that because of the work we’ve done, hundreds of millions of lives have been saved. We’ve stopped wars between eight countries, and we’re going to keep doing it. Keeping peace in the world – that’s what really matters.”
The televised segment featured a montage of Trump’s diplomatic achievements, highlighting his role in brokering peace deals in the Middle East (including the Abraham Accords), ceasefires, and de-escalation efforts in multiple conflict zones. In his speech, FIFA President Gianni Infantino – a known personal friend of President Trump – praised the American leader’s efforts, stating: “President Trump has shown that peace is possible even in the most difficult situations. From the Middle East to other regions, his bold diplomacy has saved countless lives. Football is the world’s most powerful platform for unity, and today we honor someone who has brought unity to nations.”
Infantino also revealed that the United States Institute of Peace will officially be renamed the Donald J. Trump United States Institute of Peace in recognition of the president’s contributions.
