Washington DC (US), April 27, 2026, BNN Web Staff: US President Donald Trump has strongly denied allegations made in a shooter’s manifesto, asserting that he has “never raped anybody” and dismissing the claims as baseless and offensive.
In an interview following the recent shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, Trump reacted sharply when questioned about the attacker’s written message, which reportedly targeted administration officials and included serious accusations against him.
Calling the claims “crap from some sick person,” Trump criticised the interviewer and reiterated that he had no connection to the accusations. He also maintained that he had been “totally exonerated” from past allegations, while accusing political opponents of spreading misinformation.
The suspect, who allegedly forced his way through a security checkpoint and opened fire near the high-profile event in Washington DC, is said to have explicitly mentioned targeting government officials in his writings, according to the White House.
Despite his combative tone during the interview, Trump struck a more conciliatory note while addressing the media later. He praised journalists for what he described as responsible reporting of the incident and confirmed that the annual dinner would be rescheduled within the next 30 days.
He also commended Weijia Jiang for organising the event and handling the situation under pressure.
Recalling the moments during the incident, Trump said he initially mistook the gunshot for a loud noise caused by a falling object. He noted that the threat appeared to be at a distance and security forces acted swiftly before the attacker could breach the main area.
Trump added that First Lady Melania Trump quickly sensed danger and recognised that the sound was not ordinary, reacting faster than many others present at the venue.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over security at major public and political gatherings in the US, even as investigations into the attack and the suspect’s motives continue.
