Trump Reportedly Ordered Military to Plan Attack on Greenland, Faced Pushback from Top Brass

WASHINGTON, 11 Jan 2026 (BNN Web Staff) —

In a move that has sparked internal military dissent, former President Donald Trump reportedly directed senior special forces commanders to develop contingency plans for a potential attack on Greenland. According to a report by the Daily Mail, top military officials have resisted the order, questioning its legality and political feasibility.

The directive was issued to the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the covert command overseeing elite units like the Navy SEALs and Delta Force. However, the proposal has reportedly met with significant opposition from the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Military leaders have privately argued that such an operation would be illegal and lack Congressional authorization. A political source told the Daily Mail, “The generals think Trump’s Greenland plan is insane and unlawful. So they are trying to distract him onto other, larger military endeavors. It’s like dealing with a five-year-old.”

Sources indicate that senior officials attempted to steer Trump’s focus toward less controversial options. These included targeting Russian “ghost ships”—a clandestine network of hundreds of vessels used by Moscow to evade Western sanctions—or planning action against Iran.

Trump Warns Cuba: “Make a Deal Before It’s Too Late”

In a separate but related aggressive foreign policy stance, Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Cuba, urging its communist government to “make a deal” in the wake of the U.S. operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of leader Nicolás Maduro.

In a social media post on Sunday, the Republican leader stated that the Caribbean nation would no longer receive oil or money from Caracas. Cuba has long been heavily dependent on subsidized oil shipments from Venezuela.

“Cuba will NOT be getting any more Oil or Money – NONE!” Trump wrote. “I suggest they make a deal before it is too late.”

He elaborated, “Cuba survived for many years on massive amounts of Oil & Money from Venezuela. In exchange, Cuba provided security for Venezuela’s last two dictators. But no more.”

Trump linked the warning directly to last week’s U.S. military action in Venezuela, claiming, “Most of the people killed in the U.S. attack last week in Venezuela were Cubans, and Venezuela no longer needs protection from the thugs and goons who held them hostage for so many years. Venezuela now has the U.S., with the strongest Military in the world (by far!), and we will protect them.”

Notably, U.S. officials reported that about 100 people were killed in the operation in Venezuela, including 32 members of the Cuban military and intelligence services.

Key Points:

  • Greenland Plan: An alleged Trump order for JSOC to draft attack plans, facing internal military resistance on legal and practical grounds.

  • Cuba Warning: Trump threatens to cut off Cuba’s economic lifeline from Venezuela, urging the regime to negotiate. Both actions fit a pattern of Trump’s unorthodox and confrontational foreign policy approach, emphasizing direct military and economic pressure. The reports highlight ongoing tensions between political directives and military counsel.
