Washington DC [US], January 1, 2025, BNN Web Staff: US President Donald Trump ushered in the New Year at a gala event held at his Florida resort, where he said his wish for 2025 was to see “peace on Earth,” according to Fox News.

The New Year celebration was attended by several high-profile guests, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara. Addressing the gathering, Trump praised his administration’s performance and asserted that the United States had regained strength on the global stage.

Claiming rapid economic gains, Trump said the country was collecting hundreds of millions of dollars through tariffs and attracting unprecedented levels of investment. He added that businesses were increasingly choosing to manufacture domestically, citing the absence of tariffs on US-made products.

During the event, Trump also took on the role of auctioneer for a painting depicting the face of Jesus Christ, created by artist Vanessa Horabuena. The artwork was sold for USD 2.75 million, with proceeds earmarked for St. Jude Children’s Hospital and a local sheriff’s department.

Earlier, Trump announced the withdrawal of the National Guard from Chicago, Los Angeles and Portland, stating that their deployment had contributed to a reduction in crime in those cities. He noted, however, that federal forces could be redeployed in the future if crime levels rise again.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump credited the presence of federal personnel for restoring order in the three cities and criticised Democratic mayors and governors for opposing the deployments. He suggested that the federal government would return “in a stronger form” if crime resurged.

The announcement came a week after the US Supreme Court declined to approve the deployment of the National Guard in Chicago following objections from Illinois state authorities.

Trump also reiterated his claim that tariff policies have driven record-breaking investment into the United States, asserting that the country now leads the world by a wide margin in total investment inflows.
