The meeting comes as Zelenskyy readies a fresh 20-point proposal aimed at ending the nearly four-year-long conflict.
Washington [US], December 27, 2025, BNN Web Staff: As US President Donald Trump prepares to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Florida this Sunday, he has made it clear that any potential peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia would move forward only with his approval.
The meeting comes as Zelenskyy readies a fresh 20-point proposal aimed at ending the nearly four-year-long conflict.
Speaking in an interview, Trump asserted his decisive role in the peace process, stating that no agreement would hold weight without his consent. He added that he remains open to reviewing the proposal Zelenskyy is expected to present during their talks.
Zelenskyy has confirmed that the peace framework, developed in coordination with US officials, is close to completion.
He said the plan is about 90 per cent finalised and is designed to lay the groundwork for a negotiated settlement with Moscow.
Reports suggest the proposal includes discussions on a demilitarised zone as well as security assurances from the United States.
Trump, meanwhile, expressed optimism about his upcoming engagements related to the conflict. Indicating a willingness to engage all key players, he said he expects constructive interactions not only with Zelenskyy but also with Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding that he hopes to speak with the Russian leader in the near future.
The US President’s remarks came shortly after Zelenskyy held discussions with Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. Zelenskyy later described the exchange as positive and productive.
Trump also revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to visit him around the same time, underscoring a series of high-level diplomatic meetings.
According to Ukrainian officials, the agenda for the Trump-Zelenskyy meeting will extend beyond security guarantees. Key topics are expected to include the future administration of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and the status of the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine, areas that remain central to the conflict.
Zelenskyy has cautioned that while the Florida meeting could help push negotiations forward, it is unlikely to produce an immediate resolution. He said both sides would instead aim to narrow differences and address as many unresolved issues as possible.
In a post on social media, Zelenskyy confirmed that top-level talks have been scheduled soon, expressing hope that meaningful decisions could be taken before the end of the year as diplomatic efforts intensify to bring the war to an end.
