Beijing (China), May 15, 2026, BNN Web Staff: US President Donald Trump on Friday announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping is likely to travel to the United States around September 24, calling the proposed trip a “reciprocal” visit after his own state visit to China.

Speaking to reporters during a meeting with Xi at the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in Beijing, Trump said the two countries were working toward deeper engagement and more direct communication.

“I believe President Xi will be visiting the United States around September 24 or close to that date, and the visit will be reciprocal, much like reciprocal trade,” Trump said while thanking the Chinese leadership for hosting him.

The US President praised the reception he received during the visit and described the past two days in China as productive and positive.

He also expressed optimism about future discussions between Washington and Beijing, saying both sides would continue open dialogue on trade and international matters.

Trump added that he hoped future talks would leave both nations with a stronger understanding of each other, noting that he was “very impressed” with China during the trip.

Earlier in the day, Trump and Xi held discussions at Zhongnanhai, the heavily guarded headquarters of the Chinese Communist Party leadership in Beijing. The two leaders were also seen walking through the compound’s gardens before beginning private talks away from the media spotlight.

The meeting followed a formal welcome ceremony and banquet hosted by Xi on Thursday. The leaders also visited the historic Temple of Heaven during Trump’s state visit.

Chinese officials said the engagements helped improve communication between the two countries and added “stability and certainty” to global affairs amid ongoing geopolitical and economic tensions.

The visit marks Trump’s first official trip to China in nearly nine years, with both nations signalling their intention to maintain dialogue on regional and international issues.
