Trump Signals Iran Operation Wind-Down as US Claims ‘Thousands’ of Targets Hit in Major Offensive
Washington DC (US), March 21, 2026, BNN Web Staff : US President Donald Trump has indicated that American military operations against Iran may soon scale down, even as Washington claims to have inflicted extensive damage on Iranian military infrastructure under “Operation Epic Fury.”
In a statement, Trump said the United States is “very close” to achieving its strategic objectives, which include dismantling Iran’s missile capabilities, crippling its defence industrial base, and preventing it from developing nuclear weapons.
He also stressed the importance of protecting key regional allies such as Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
According to the US Department of Defense, thousands of targets have been struck during the operation.
These reportedly include command centres, missile systems, air defence networks, weapons storage sites, and facilities linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. US Central Command also claimed that more than 120 Iranian naval assets, including submarines, have been damaged or destroyed.
The strikes are part of an ongoing escalation involving the United States, Iran, and regional allies, with tensions continuing to rise across West Asia. US forces have also targeted drone production facilities, including sites linked to the manufacturing of Shahed attack drones.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Iran attempted to strike a joint US-UK military base at Diego Garcia using ballistic missiles. While one missile reportedly failed mid-flight, another was intercepted by a US warship, though details remain unclear.
Despite signalling a possible drawdown, Trump made it clear that Washington is not seeking a ceasefire at this stage, stating that military pressure would continue until objectives are fully met.
The situation remains volatile, with global attention focused on the potential for further escalation in the region.
