WASHINGTON D.C. – President Donald Trump has announced he will host newly elected New York City Mayor Joharan Mamdani at the White House on Friday, November 21st. However, even while announcing the meeting, the Republican president did not miss an opportunity to target Mamdani, repeatedly referring to him as a “communist.”
Trump made the claim on his Truth Social platform, stating, “Communist Mayor Mamdani asked me for a meeting, and it will be on Friday, November 21st, in the Oval Office.”
At the time of reporting, Mamdani had not independently confirmed the meeting from his side.
A History of Invective and Threats
This is not the first time Trump has attacked the mayor. He has previously called Mamdani a “communist maniac” and threatened to cut federal funding for New York if he won the election.
The former president, known for his hardline immigration stance, has also mocked Mamdani’s South Asian name. He deliberately mispronounced it in a recent comment, saying, “Mamdami, or whatever his name is.”
Mamdani’s Retort
For his part, Mamdani has not shied away from targeting the 79-year-old Republican president. During his victory speech earlier this month, Mamdani told an exuberant crowd of supporters:
“Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching this—I’ve got four words for you: Turn the volume up!”
Later, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt confirmed that the President had, in fact, been watching Mamdani’s speech.
