In an unprecedented move, King Charles III has stripped his younger brother, Prince Andrew, of his “Prince” title and has ordered him to vacate his home, the Royal Lodge in Windsor. The announcement was made officially by Buckingham Palace.
This decisive action comes amid renewed public scrutiny of the 65-year-old Duke of York’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and following the posthumous publication of the memoir by Virginia Giuffre, who accused Andrew of sexual assault.
The Giuffre Allegations and Aftermath
Virginia Giuffre, who died by suicide in April 2025, had publicly accused Prince Andrew of sexual assault. The Duke has consistently denied these allegations.
While the claims were never proven in court and an investigation was ongoing, Giuffre’s death and the subsequent launch of her memoir, “Nobody’s Girl,”—in which she detailed her account of the alleged abuse—have severely damaged the Royal Family’s reputation.
A statement from Buckingham Palace confirmed, “His Majesty the King has revoked all honorary titles previously held by Prince Andrew. He will no longer be known as ‘Prince Andrew’ and will henceforth use the name Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.”

The titles of Andrew’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will remain unaffected. This is because their princess titles were granted under rules established by King George V in 1917, which confer status equally to all grandchildren of the monarch.

However, this gesture was unable to quell the controversy.
