Washington, DC (US), December 5, 2025, BNN Web Staff— The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have announced that Peraton has been chosen as the Prime Integrator to spearhead one of the most significant aviation infrastructure overhauls in decades.

Backed by a historic USD 12.5 billion initial investment under President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, the project aims to roll out a modern air traffic control (ATC) system designed to boost safety, reliability, and efficiency across American airspace.

US Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy said Peraton was selected for its proven ability to integrate complex technological systems.

“They share President Trump’s vision to modernize our skies swiftly and safely. This partnership will deliver a state-of-the-art system that benefits travelers and air traffic controllers alike,” he stated.

FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford noted that while the current ATC system remains safe, outdated equipment is causing frequent disruptions and delays.

He said an additional USD 20 billion will be required to complete the upgrade by 2028, adding, “This is a long-term investment in the future of aviation, and we’re committed to getting it right.”

According to the FAA, Peraton’s track record with federal agencies makes it well-positioned to execute the modernization within the accelerated three-year timeline set by the Trump Administration—much faster than earlier projections under previous leadership.

The pioneering Prime Integrator contract includes performance-based incentives and penalties to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.

The modernization plan involves replacing ageing copper networks with fiber infrastructure, upgrading radar systems, deploying next-generation communication tools, and establishing a new digital command center.

Peraton will begin work immediately, focusing first on network upgrades and expanding digital capabilities across the National Airspace System (NAS). The FAA said the new system will significantly reduce equipment-related flight delays and support future aviation growth.
