Embassy calls current moment a “historic opportunity” as ceasefire opens door for dialogue and national revival
Beirut, May 1, 2026, BNN Web Staff : The United States Embassy in Lebanon on Friday said the country is at a critical turning point, urging its people to seize what it described as a historic opportunity to reclaim full sovereignty and shape an independent future.
In a strongly worded statement, the Embassy emphasised that the ongoing pause in hostilities has created a rare window for Lebanon to present its demands with the focused attention of the US government.
It highlighted the potential for direct engagement between Lebanon and Israel, calling it a significant step toward long-term stability.
The Embassy suggested that talks between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, facilitated by US President Donald Trump, could lead to concrete assurances on sovereignty, border security, reconstruction support, and restoration of state authority.
Reaffirming its support, the United States said it stands ready to assist Lebanon in making decisive choices about its future, stressing that the moment calls for confidence and leadership.
The statement comes days after President Trump indicated the possibility of hosting leaders from both countries in Washington, following a temporary extension of the ceasefire.
