Washington DC (US), December 8, 2025, BNN Web Staff: US Vice President JD Vance has ignited widespread debate on social media after declaring that “mass migration is theft of the American Dream.”

Vance argued that immigrants were taking opportunities away from American workers and suggested that studies challenging his view were funded by those benefiting from the current system.

“Mass migration is the theft of the American Dream,” Vance wrote on X. “It has always been this way, and every position paper, think tank piece, and econometric study suggesting otherwise is paid for by the people getting rich off of the old system.”

His comments followed a video of a Louisiana construction company owner claiming he had seen dramatic changes since US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) began operations in the state, citing a decline in immigrant workers.

Vance’s remarks triggered online backlash, with many pointing out that his wife, Usha Vance, is American-born and the daughter of Indian immigrants.

The couple has three children, including two sons, Ewan and Vivek, and a daughter, Mirabel. Social media users criticized Vance for seemingly targeting his own family’s background.

This controversy comes on the heels of Vance’s previous remarks defending Americans’ preference for neighbors who share their “race, language or skin color,” which historians and commentators have compared to segregationist rhetoric.

Vance has also criticized Canada’s “large foreign-born population,” attributing stagnating living standards to immigration policies.

The remarks have intensified discussions on immigration, diversity, and political rhetoric ahead of the upcoming election cycle.
