With millions of users worldwide, WhatsApp is continuously introducing new features to enhance the user experience. A recent report suggests the platform is preparing to launch a new security feature designed to help protect users from targeted cyber attacks.
The company is reportedly developing a feature called ‘Strict Account Settings’. This mode is specifically tailored for users who may be at risk of targeted cyber attacks. This new feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.33.4 by feature tracker WABetaInfo. It is currently in development and not yet under testing.
What Makes the ‘Strict Account Settings’ Mode So Special?
This mode will allow users to unlock multiple security settings in their account simultaneously with a single toggle. This means you won’t have to manage privacy changes separately. Let’s explore the advanced security features that will be available under this mode:
IP Address Protection: This mode will allow you to hide your IP address during calls. All WhatsApp calls will be routed through its servers, preventing anyone from tracking your location.
Media & File Blocking: Media files (photos, videos) and documents from unknown numbers will not download automatically, providing protection against malware or phishing links.
Link Preview Disable: Link previews for URLs sent in chats will not generate automatically, significantly reducing the potential for IP leaks or tracking.
Mute Unknown Calls: Incoming calls from unknown numbers will be automatically muted, preventing spam or scam calls.
Group Invite Restrictions: This mode will allow you to control who can add you to groups, potentially limiting it to trusted contacts only. This will reduce unwanted groups and spam.
Enhanced Privacy Controls: You will be able to restrict details like your profile photo, status, and “last seen” to your contacts only.
Security Alerts: The mode will notify you if a contact’s security code changes, allowing you to verify the authenticity of the chat.
Auto-Enable Two-Step Verification: For added account security, two-step verification will be automatically enabled in this mode, protecting your account with a PIN.
This comprehensive suite of features, accessible via one simple toggle, aims to provide a robust defense layer for users facing elevated digital threats.
