Tel Aviv [Israel], May 3, 2026, BNN Web Staff: The Israeli military has carried out a fresh wave of strikes in southern Lebanon, targeting dozens of sites allegedly linked to Hezbollah, amid rising tensions along the border.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the operations, conducted over the past 24 hours, focused on what it described as militant infrastructure used for planning and supporting attacks against Israeli troops.
According to the military, around 70 structures were hit, including nearly 50 sites associated with Hezbollah.
The targeted locations reportedly included command centres, weapons storage facilities, and other operational bases. The IDF also claimed it neutralised militants operating close to Israeli forces during the strikes.
In a statement, the military said it would continue acting against threats to Israeli civilians and soldiers in line with directives from the country’s political leadership.
Separately, the IDF reported an incident in the southern Gaza Strip, where troops identified four suspected militants crossing a designated boundary and approaching Israeli positions.
Soldiers opened fire, killing three individuals and injuring another, the military said, adding that forces remain deployed under the existing ceasefire framework.
The developments come against the backdrop of increasingly firm rhetoric from Hezbollah leadership.
The group’s chief, Naim Qassem, recently reiterated opposition to any direct negotiations with Israel, stressing that armed resistance would continue.
Qassem also criticised Lebanon’s diplomatic approach, urging authorities to avoid direct engagement and instead pursue indirect channels.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that continued violations by Hezbollah are weakening the ceasefire arrangement in Lebanon.
He asserted that Israeli forces remain actively engaged and would respond decisively to ensure security along the northern border.
The escalation follows a recent move by US President Donald Trump to extend the ceasefire period, with Washington also indicating support for Lebanon in countering Hezbollah’s influence.
