Washington DC (US), May 19, 2026, BNN Web Staff: The United States has approved the potential sale of defence support services and related equipment for Boeing AH-64 Apache and BAE M777 howitzer to India, in deals valued at over $428 million, according to the US State Department.
The proposed package includes approximately $198.2 million in sustainment support for Apache helicopters and about $230 million for long-term maintenance and logistical support for M777 ultra-light howitzers.
The State Department said the Apache support deal will involve engineering, technical, and logistics assistance, along with training, technical data, and program support services. Major contractors for the Apache package include Boeing and Lockheed Martin.
For the M777 artillery systems, the support package will be handled by BAE Systems and will include spare parts, repair and return services, depot-level maintenance, training, and field support.
The US State Department said the sale aligns with Washington’s foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening strategic defence cooperation with India and enhancing security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia regions.
It further stated that the deal will improve India’s ability to respond to current and future threats while reinforcing its defence preparedness and deterrence capabilities. The statement also noted that India would have no difficulty integrating the systems and support services into its armed forces.
India has already been operating Apache helicopters, which recently demonstrated combat capabilities during the ‘Brahmastra’ live firing exercise at the Pokhran Firing Range, showcasing precision strikes in simulated battlefield conditions.
