Washington DC (US), April 11, 2026, BNN Web Staff:  Amid heightened global attention, delegations from the United States and Iran have arrived in Islamabad to initiate crucial negotiations focused on sustaining a fragile ceasefire and resolving tensions around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

A US aircraft carrying senior officials, including Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, landed in the Pakistani capital for the talks. The Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, arrived shortly after midnight, accompanied by senior ministers and key officials.

The negotiations follow last week’s ceasefire announcement, with Iran indicating that discussions could continue for up to 15 days. Shehbaz Sharif described the dialogue as “make or break,” underlining the high stakes involved.

Security was visibly tightened as the delegations arrived. Iranian aircraft entering Pakistani airspace were escorted by advanced surveillance systems and fighter jets, while major routes leading to Islamabad’s diplomatic enclave were sealed off.

At the core of the talks lies a stark divergence in positions. Iran has proposed a 10-point framework, seeking recognition of its nuclear program, lifting of sanctions, and continued control over Hormuz. In contrast, the US has pushed a broader 15-point plan calling for an end to uranium enrichment, stricter international monitoring, and curbs on regional influence.

US President Donald Trump has termed Iran’s proposal “workable” in parts but maintained that final decisions would emerge from closed-door negotiations. However, Vice President Vance dismissed publicly circulated versions of Iran’s plan as lacking credibility.

The talks are unfolding against a volatile regional backdrop. Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated that despite the ceasefire, military operations against Hezbollah-linked targets will continue. Reports of fresh airstrikes in southern Lebanon have further underscored the fragile nature of the situation.

With global energy security and regional stability at stake, the outcome of the Islamabad talks is expected to have far-reaching consequences for international diplomacy and trade.
